We don’t need grand gestures to grow spiritually—just steady flecks of faith, love, and kindness each day.
Recently, I attended the temple for the first time. I was surprised by how much of the experience was about progression. Going through the temple was a powerful reminder that spiritual growth doesn’t have to happen all at once. I realized that I don’t have to take huge steps or try to control the timing of my progress; even small, consistent choices—like prayers, acts of service, and moments of patience—can lead to real growth.
I continued to reflect on the idea of growth and realized that the small choices that influenced my own spiritual growth could also affect the lives of those around me. I can intentionally bless others every day, even when life is busy and full of uncertainties.
In his address “Flecks of Gold,” Elder Patrick Kearon teaches a similar principle. He encourages us to see ourselves as “flecks of gold” in the lives of others. He describes how tiny acts of kindness, patience, and love bring light to the lives of those around us and, at the same time, build up our own spiritual growth.

Young adults often feel pressured to achieve big milestones in school, work, church, or relationships. Elder Kearon’s words remind us that real spiritual growth comes from steady, intentional choices that come from our faith and kindness. Small acts—like listening, encouraging, serving, or even smiling at someone—build resilience, joy, and a stronger relationship with Christ.
The challenge for us is clear: become a “fleck of gold” in someone’s life. Pray for someone, offer encouragement, reach out to a friend, or choose patience in a frustrating moment. Attending the temple reminded me that growth doesn’t come in one dramatic step but through simple, faithful choices. Over time, these small acts of spreading love, faith, and kindness will transform not only our own spiritual lives but also the lives of those around us.
