Embracing the You That You Are

God loves us perfectly, so why don’t we love ourselves?

In today’s world, we can easily get bogged down by questions about our self-worth. Why are we not as pretty as our friends? Why can’t we perform as well in school as the other students? Why don’t we ever get as many likes on social media as everyone else does?

You are the only you. Embrace it!

This message from the Latter-day Saints Channel, entitled “How to Love Yourself Like God Loves You,” teaches us four ways we can see our divine worth.

  1. See your true value.

The world changes all the time. What is fashionable and cool one second will seem outdated and weird the next. We shouldn’t define our worth by the world’s standards. Instead, we need to focus on the inherent value that we already have.

  1. Learn to let go of past mistakes.

Nobody is perfect, but that doesn’t mean we should focus on our shortcomings. We all make mistakes, so what’s the use in dwelling on them?

  1. Recognize that trials are not punishments.

It’s easy to think that the hardships in our life are the result of our imperfections, but that’s not the truth at all! The adversity we experience helps us grow. Next time you are confronted by a particularly rough trial, view it as an opportunity for growth instead of a punishment.

  1. Remember who you are.

You are the only you. Embrace it! No two people on earth are exactly the same. Remember that without you humanity would be missing out on your unique voice.
