Help and Happiness Ahead

Every one of us experiences trials. But when we trust in Christ, we can find hope that things will get better.

Trials are a part of the mortal journey. Our trials may be different, but we all face them. Some struggle with illness or death of loved ones; others deal with financial burdens or wayward family members. Whatever our burdens may be, if we have faith in Christ, we can know that we’ll receive promised blessings.

In Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s October 1999 general conference address “An High Priest of Good Things to Come,” he bears powerful testimony of Jesus Christ by promising the faithful that “there is help and happiness ahead.” When the trials of life beat upon us, a testimony of Christ will give us the strength to endure.

Jesus Christ performed the Atonement, suffering for our sins, trials, and heartaches. He loves us and is aware of the difficult circumstances we face. He is the “light of the world” (John 8:12), and he is the light at the end of the tunnel. As we face the storms of life, Christ is with us. We are never alone. He has promised an end to our hardships. Faith in Christ gives us hope for a better future.

With love and conviction, Elder Holland encourages us, “Don’t you quit. You keep walking. You keep trying. There is help and happiness ahead—a lot of it….You keep your chin up. It will be all right in the end. Trust God and believe in good things to come.” Whether some blessings come sooner, later, or in heaven, Elder Holland promises that “for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come.”
