Six Ways to Invite the Lord to be Your Partner in Building Your Life

We all have dreams, aspirations, and goals, but when we trust the Lord to direct our lives, he will bless us beyond our expectations.

Lawrence P. Vincent is a professional opera singer, but he says, “in my wildest dreams…I never envisioned myself [here]. Never!” In a BYU devotional, “Ordinary Lives, Extraordinary Miracles,” Brother Vincent explains how he realized that God’s plan for his family was greater than they had ever hoped. This is similar to what the Lord described in  Isaiah 55:8-9.

He shares six principles that help us allow God to direct our lives:

  1. Make the Lord Your Partner as You Prepare.

We can discover what God has in store for us as we prepare ourselves and work towards our goals, always looking for God’s direction.

  1. Doubt Not, Fear Not.

Intense buffeting often accompanies spiritual events, but we can lay any apprehension at the Lord’s feet.

  1. Follow the Way the Lord has Prepared.

When we don’t know what to do, we must allow the Lord to reveal the way.

  1. Work Hard and Wait upon the Lord.

When we’ve done everything we can, we may need to wait before guidance comes.

  1. Allow the Lord to Step Between You and the Devourer.

The world is full of destructive forces. The Lord knows this and offers us his protection.

  1. Be Willing to Sacrifice All.

The Lord requires us to make sacrifices that help us become more like him.

By doing these things, we allow Heavenly Father to direct our lives. Indeed, as President Ezra Taft Benson promises, “Men and women who turn their lives over to God will discover that He can make a lot more out of their lives than they can.”
