Turn to the Source of Truth

It is more important now than ever before to proclaim the truth of the Book of Mormon and “hearken unto these words and believe in Christ.”

We are currently living in the last days: political turmoil, widespread economic upheaval, and a world turning to sin more and more every day. In Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s 2009 general conference talk “Safety for the Soul,” he teaches us that “the Savior warned that in the last days even those of the covenant, the very elect, could be deceived by the enemy of truth.” It is becoming easier each day to stumble off the path of righteousness. But, lucky for us, Heavenly Father has armed us with a very important book: the Book of Mormon.

The Book of Mormon, one of the most powerful tools in these dark times, has been given to us to counteract what Elder Holland calls “latter-day ills.” He reminds us that it has been given to us as a source of  truth and a source of “safety for the soul.” In times of need, we need to remember to open our copies of the Book of Mormon and ponder the divine inspiration that God has given us.

We are constantly reminded by the First Presidency and other general authorities to stay focused on the foundation of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and that includes the Book of Mormon. We are so lucky to live in a time where the complete gospel of Jesus Christ is readily available to us through the Book of Mormon. Focusing our lives on the essential truths in this book will help us achieve what Elder Holland reminded us is a key purpose of the book: “to bring happiness and hope to the faithful.”
