Understanding who the members of the Godhead are will help you draw closer to God and prepare for your own salvation.
There are a lot of different ideas about who God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are as a Godhead. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland explains who they are and how we can help others understand who they are in his article “Knowing the Godhead.”Understand the GodheadThe Godhead consists of Heavenly Father; his Son, Jesus Christ; and the Holy Ghost. They are three distinct individuals who work together toward one goal: saving mankind. Elder Holland points out that as we come to know them, we will understand that God “plan[s] for [our] salvation and that He has given commandments as to how we find our way back to Him.”
Understand the Mission of Jesus Christ
Elder Holland tells us that “Jesus came into mortality to show us the way, the truth, and the life. Indeed, He is the only way, the whole truth, and the perfect life.” While here on this earth, Jesus Christ performed the Atonement, paving the way for eternal salvation.
Understand Christian Confusion
Many other religions believe that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are all one person. But because of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ, we know that they are three distinct beings. Understanding this distinction can help us learn who the members of the Godhead really are and how to come closer to them.
As we come to know the Godhead better, we will better understand our divine nature. Sharing our knowledge with others will help them experience the joy this understanding brings to our lives.
