Patience is a virtue, but we don’t always have to wait for good things to come. Many of God’s blessings are right in front of our faces.
Sometimes it’s easy to feel as though God takes too long to answer our prayers or that certain blessings will never come. It’s like when you’re a little kid waiting for summer vacation to start. The closer you get to the last day of school, the longer the hours seem to drag on. Other times it feels like you’re sinking further and further underwater; you wonder in agony if anyone is coming to the rescue to pull you up, up, up so you can inhale that long-awaited, life-giving air you so desperately need. Whether you’re watching the hours tick by or trying desperately to hold your breath, the Lord has blessings to give you this very instant.
In “The Immediate Goodness of God,” Elder Kyle S. McKay testifies of the Lord’s instantaneous blessings, even in the midst of life’s trials and turmoil. He shares some heartrending stories of families in despair who received immediate blessings of comfort and even joy in their moments of need. Elder McKay bears his heartfelt testimony that “Jesus Christ is the Great Deliverer….I promise that as you turn to Him with real intent and full purpose of heart, He will deliver you from everything that threatens to diminish or destroy your life or joy. That deliverance may take…a lifetime or longer. So, to give you comfort, courage, and hope, to sustain and strengthen you to that day of ultimate deliverance, I commend to you and testify of the immediate goodness of God.”
I’ve felt the immediate goodness of God when trials have seemed like deep water rushing over my own head. And although some blessings may come in the last hour of the last day, after the clock has been ticking for what feels like an eternity, God’s blessings of comfort and joy are always available to us in our hour of need. Those blessings are a direct manifestation of his immediate, infinite love.
