We love and remember Elder Richard G. Scott, a beloved Apostle, who constantly testified of the Savior in word and action.

When Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was young, he promised the Lord that he would devote his life to serving the Savior, and he did so. On September 22, 2015, Elder Scott passed away, having spent the majority of his life teaching the gospel and testifying of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
Elder Scott was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on November 7, 1928. His family moved to Washington, DC, when he was a young boy. He was a busy and hardworking child, and his interest in technology and mechanics led him to a career in nuclear engineering.
In college Elder Scott met Jeanene Watkins, who encouraged him to serve a mission. While he served in Uruguay, Jeanene served a mission in the northeastern United States. They were married in the Manti Temple in 1953, two weeks after she finished her mission.
Elder and Sister Scott’s relationship has been praised by family members and other Church leaders, and it was often the subject of Elder Scott’s remarks as he taught and spoke in the Church. Sister Scott passed away in 1995, and Elder Scott bore testimony many times of the sealing power that would reunite the couple beyond the veil.
Elder Scott was called to serve as a mission president in Argentina in 1965 when he was 37 years old. He was called as a Seventy in 1977 and was sustained a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1988.
A powerful witness of Jesus Christ, Elder Scott consistently taught about repentance and healing through the Savior’s Atonement. His soft-spoken yet firm voice expressed his love for the gospel and for the people he served.

Elder Scott was dear to my heart. I was always so excited to hear his talks and listen to his stories about his family and his wife. His sweet spirit was profound and uplifting. He is very missed.
