Enduring to the end is a big task—especially when it’s difficult just to get through the day. Luckily, we don’t have to do it alone.
I love the gospel of Jesus Christ, but sometimes the commission to endure to the end seems like a daunting and impossible task. There are times when I don’t think I can endure to the end of the day—much less to the end end. When our trials seem to grow too large and we feel as though we cannot possibly go on any longer, it helps to remember that we aren’t expected to endure alone.
In his April 2018 general conference address titled “He That Shall Endure unto the End, the Same Shall Be Saved,” Elder Claudio D. Zivic taught, “[Jesus Christ] suffered for our sins, pains, depression, anguish, infirmities, and fears, and so he knows how to help us, how to inspire us, how to comfort us, and how to strengthen us so that we may endure and obtain the crown that is reserved for those who are not defeated.” Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is there beside us and enduring with us.
In times of trial and adversity, it can help to remember the words of Alma when he asked God to“give us strength according to our faith which is in Christ, even unto deliverance” (Alma 14:26). The help we need will come as we exercise our faith in Christ. Elder Zivic offers a few key ways to exercise this faith and ultimately endure to the end, which include daily prayer and scripture study, weekly partaking of the sacrament, paying tithing, holding a current temple recommend, and serving in the work of the Lord.
As we strive to endure day by day, we can call upon Christ to assist us. As Elder Zivic said, “The Lord will be at our side, helping us in times of need and weakness, and if we demonstrate a sincere desire and act accordingly, he will make ‘weak things become strong.’”
