Using the correct name of the Church brings more spiritual blessings than we realize.
Since President Russell M. Nelson’s reemphasis on using the correct name of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Church has updated everything from email domains to teaching materials in order to follow the prophet’s counsel. As Latter-day Saints, we have also updated how we refer to the Church in our day-to-day conversations and have seen unexpected blessings from using the Church’s correct name.
President Henry B. Eyring shares some of these blessings in his article “Thus Shall My Church Be Called.” He cites one example in Africa where “individuals searching for a church to join reported having dreams. In their dreams, they were instructed to look for a church called by the name of Jesus Christ. As they searched, they found only one church in which the Savior’s name is central—The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”
In another instance, “a Primary boy invited his neighbors to his baptism. A minister of another faith said he never would have gone to a ‘Mormon Church’ baptism. But because he could tell that the boy’s church focused on Jesus Christ, the minister attended with his wife.”
Experiences like these show how people will be drawn to Jesus Christ and his Church, often in ways we don’t expect, such as through the correct use of a name. By using the correct name of the Lord’s Church, we will be surprised at the difference it can make in our own lives and in the lives of others.
