Faith in the living Christ can conquer any mountain we face. But how do we go from believing this truth to actually living it?
At a time when hardship looms like mountains all around us, it’s no wonder that people are losing faith. Countless sources offer guidance for rekindling faith, but few provide true and lasting power. In his talk “Christ Is Risen; Faith in Him Will Move Mountains,” President Russell M. Nelson says that “faith in Jesus Christ is the greatest power available to us in this life.” Exercising faith in Jesus Christ is a lifelong effort: one that will empower us in our troubled world. President Nelson gives the following five suggestions about how to strengthen our faith:
1. Study the gospel.
The most fundamental principle of the gospel of Jesus Christ is faith. As we strive to learn about and build faith, our foundation will become strong and lasting.
2. Choose to believe.
Faith grows when we consistently choose to put our trust in Jesus Christ above the trust we have in ourselves—especially during moments when we would normally turn inward for control.
3. Act in faith.
Some examples of things we can do to act in faith are to pray, serve others, and apply the teachings of modern prophets and apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
4. Partake of sacred ordinances.
Our faith in Christ requires that we accept the invitation to walk the covenant path. The decision to take part in ordinances and make sacred covenants is the ultimate expression of faith in Jesus Christ.
5. Ask God for help.
There are many times that our faith will fall short—but this is not a reason to give up. The Lord will bless us with increased faith and focus as we follow the prophet’s guidance to “Let God Prevail” in every aspect of our lives.
President Nelson promises that “your growing faith in Him will move mountains… Your flourishing faith will help you turn challenges into unparalleled growth and opportunity.” Going back to the basics and looking with faith to Jesus Christ will fortify us to overcome any mountain we face in our modern world.
