The most important decision we can make in our lives is to hear the Shepherd’s voice.
In our lives, we are often called upon to make decisions. Decisions about careers. Decisions about family. Decisions about relationships. The decisions we make on a daily basis are innumerable. Yet, the most important decision we make is to hear our Shepherd’s voice and do his will.
Brother Mark L. Pace, in his address “His Sheep Still Hear His Voice,” shares that Jesus Christ “is our loving Shepherd, and He wants to lead us to ‘green pastures’ and ‘still waters,’ where he will restore our souls.” The choices we make dictate how much joy we feel in this life and in the eternities. When we follow the voice of the Shepherd, we can make decisions that lead to lasting happiness.

Sometimes, we make choices that lead us to wander away from the Shepherd’s flock into peril and despair. As we wander, we struggle to hear the voice of our Shepherd. Even though we cannot hear him, he still comes to rescue us and bring us back to his flock. All Christ asks is that we try a little harder in the future to hear his voice and heed his call.
As we make decisions in life, we should seek to hear our Shepherd’s voice. We can hear his voice when we follow his commandments, live our covenants, and strive to stand in holy places. We should choose to not only hear but to follow his voice. When we follow the Shepherd’s voice, he will lead us safely and joyfully home.
