Every decision we make leads to a domino effect that eventually determines our destiny. In the new Book of Mormon videos, Nephi is one such character who has conquered the challenge of choices.

I grew up next to a horse farm, with a big old farm gate at the fence. It always fascinated me how the hinge only needed to move a tiny bit to cause a massive movement at the perimeter. While following the making of the first ever Book of Mormon Videos series released by the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the image of the farm gate kept returning to my mind because of the character Nephi.
As you watch Nephi make good decisions in the videos, you might be interested to know that the actor who plays Nephi, Jackson VanDerwerken, is currently serving a mission in the Brazil Sao Paulo East Mission. As reported by Utah Valley 360, when asked how his experience playing the character of Nephi would help him in his mission, VanDerkwerken said, “[Nephi] made the right choices at the right time. And that’s what we need to realize—that the big choices matter but also the little ones, too.”
Our lives are like the farm gate where our small acts lead to great consequences. Ask yourself,“What choices am I making that will lead to great consequences?” and “What decisions do I need to make to change my destiny and keep myself in line with the gospel?”
Some small decisions may be to pray every morning and night or to read the scriptures every day. It is also important to recognize when you need to change major lifestyle habits that are inhibiting your eternal progression. Whatever your circumstances, consider the examples of both Nephi and Jackson VanDerkwerken who understood the consequences of small decisions and who made sure to make the right decisions at the right time.
