When fear of the future blurs your faith, trusting God realigns your path.
My last year at Brigham Young University has been strenuous as I’ve felt anxious about my future after college. At times, the thought of being without a secure job, a place to live, or a partner has created uncertainty, clouding my vision of God’s plan for me. While I strive to be active in living the gospel of Jesus Christ, I find myself doubting God’s presence in my life.

As I was navigating a particularly tough week, the BYU devotional “How to Follow Your Heavenly GPS” by Sister Wendy W. Reese kept replaying in my mind. She reminds us that whenever we are trying our best but still feel lost, “we can take courage that when we’re doing the right things and standing in the right places—when we are keeping our sacred covenants—God is illuminating our paths and guiding our footsteps.”
As I pondered her talk, I realized that instead of focusing on my doubts, I must turn to the gospel with greater desire and trust. Sister Reese warns us that, to avoid taking the wrong path in this rigorous decade of decision, we must trust in the plan, trust in prayer, and trust in our covenants. All of these are essential to continue on the path God has designed for us.
So, I started reading my scriptures with more intent, expressing happiness about being at church, praying with more charity for others and myself, and reflecting in a journal on how the Lord has blessed me—even by small and simple means. As I have done so, I’ve felt peace regarding the many worries of my life.
Life is hard and decisions can be overwhelming, but I choose to trust God. When I do this, I can see God’s hand in my life and my trust in his eternal plan for me realigns my path.
