Life is unfair, but understanding its purpose can give us renewed vigor.
The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on the world for the past year and a half. It has derailed so many plans and forced the cancellation of events. Many people may marvel at how unfair the whole situation has been, but Elder Dale G. Renlund gives us some comfort in his general conference address “Infuriating Unfairness.”
Elder Renlund highlights several different types of unfairness, including the type that can’t be explained. Unfair situations come in many forms—cancer, job loss, natural disasters, or COVID-19. When these unexplainable circumstances arise, we can easily fall apart and question the motives of God. This is where faith comes in.
Elder Renlund says, “Do not let unfairness harden you or corrode your faith in God.” If we let him, Jesus Christ will help us through the unfairness that inevitably comes with life. Elder Renlund states, “Jesus Christ both understands unfairness and has the power to provide a remedy.” As we put our faith in Christ and rely on him, we’ll be able to find strength to overcome our trials. He died for each of us and has the ability to take away our pain. The pandemic has been difficult, but we can find comfort through Christ who understands our unbelievable unfairness and can ultimately make things right.
