Why We Should Be Spiritually Minded

Being spiritually minded is the best way to find certainty in an uncertain world.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

I have never really liked that question; as I’ve gotten older, I’ve liked it even less. Each year as I progress further along my college career, my future doesn’t look foggy and unclear; it looks like a kaleidoscope. There are so many different ways my life could go that at times everything seems uncertain. In a world already full of so much uncertainty, this added stress can be overwhelming. Fortunately, God doesn’t leave us alone in this ever-changing world. He has given us the Holy Ghost to guide us, and we can utilize this gift by living a spiritually minded life.

In his Liahona article titled “Choose to Be Spiritually Minded,” Elder José A. Teixeira gives us four ways we can be more spiritually minded:

  1. Be in tune with our Heavenly Father and the Savior.
  2. Love God.
  3. Remember what the Savior did for us.
  4. Recognize spiritual things.

As we strive to follow this counsel, Elder Teixeira promises that God will bring us certainty: “[Heavenly Father’s] communication to your spirit carries far more certainty than any communication you can receive through your natural senses.” By being spiritually minded, we can be more certain about our futures and our decisions because we have the Holy Ghost with us.

This counsel has brought me a lot of comfort. As we strive to be spiritually minded, Heavenly Father will readily give us comfort and peace.
