Find God’s love in your own life. I promise you, it is there.
“Brothers and sisters, do you know how completely God, our Heavenly Father, loves you?”
Sister Susan H. Porter, First Counselor in the Primary General Presidency, shares this sentiment in her talk “God’s Love: The Most Joyous to the Soul.” She addresses how God’s love can be found in our lives, even when it seems far away. Building on Sister Porter’s talk, I’ve thought about some of the key ways I find God’s love:
- Prayer. Sister Porter states, “We can pray to have our eyes opened to see His hand in our lives.” Feeling God’s love can be hard when I’m having a bad day and I can’t really feel anything. Those days, I ask him specifically to help me feel his love that day. He has answered my prayers, and his love keeps me going.
- Other people. Sister Porter tells about one man who found God’s love through serving others: He chose to ask, “How can I show God’s love through my service?” Sister Porter observes that “with this new approach, he felt joy, meaning, and purpose.” I find God’s love both by helping others and by letting others help me. Service is a manifestation of God’s love, whether we are the “server” or the “served.”
- Hope in trials. Sister Porter adds that “God’s love is not found in the circumstances of our lives but in His presence in our lives.” I’ve felt God’s presence help me as I’ve struggled through my darkest thoughts and in my deepest pits. Sometimes God’s love is nothing more than a glimmer of hope that coaxes me out of my world of fear, but it always comes.
Even when the circumstances in my life aren’t what I want them to be, I can still feel his presence when I choose to pray, serve, and hope. I know that God is there. God is always there for me and for you. He loves you so much that he gave his Only Begotten Son so that he could be with you again. Find his love in your own life. I promise, it is there.
