Bigger than anything we may face, carry, or worry about.
God’s all-encompassing love is vaster than we can comprehend. Sister Kristin M. Yee emphasizes this truth in her worldwide Relief Society devotional message, “Jesus Christ’s Sacrifice Was and Is for You.” To begin her talk, she shares an anecdote from a nursery class in which a young boy named Charlie simply and profoundly declared, “God’s love is BIG.” This is true. God’s love reaches us wherever we are and in every situation.

Sister Yee continues her message by recounting an experience that brought her to her knees, no longer able to carry her burden alone. As I read her story, I was moved, knowing that I have also had trials I have felt too weak to face, let alone overcome. It took me some time to understand what Charlie understood and what Sister Yee teaches: God’s love for each of his children is greater than anything that we may face. While knowing this truth does not eliminate our trials, it can provide us with hope.
Sister Yee shares a principle that she learned through her trials and that I have come to know through mine: “God’s great love is manifest through the merciful gift of His Son, Jesus Christ…. [He] came to help lift our burdens and carry what we cannot and were not meant to carry on our own.” When our burdens feel heavy and our trials are hard, we can have hope that God knows and loves us—and that anything too heavy for us cannot be bigger than the love of God made manifest in Christ.
As the Apostle Paul declares, “Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39). We can take comfort in knowing that no matter how large and isolating our trials may feel to us, they are never capable of separating us from God’s love—boundless, eternal, and BIG.
