School, work, family, friends—all day every day, something needs our attention. In his talk, “A Summer with Great Aunt Rose,” President Dieter F. Uchtdorf gives us a simple recipe for bringing happiness into every moment of our day. He tells a story about a young girl named Eva who is learning from her Great Aunt Rose about how to find happiness in a hard world. Great Aunt Rose’s wise words can benefit us all.

First, have faith. Trusting in Jesus Christ brings a peace that we can’t find anywhere else. Have faith that he loves you and that whatever is happening today, everything will be okay.

Second, have hope. When we hope, we look forward to the future, confident that everything will work out the way that God has intended. As Aunt Rose explains in President Uchtdorf’s story, “Faith led to hope. And faith and hope gave me confidence that one day everything would make sense, that because of the Savior, all the wrongs would be made right.”

Finally, have love. Feeling love toward God, and his children, brings us closer to him. President Uchtdorf reminds us that “when we love God, we want to serve Him. We want to be like Him. When we love our neighbors, we stop thinking so much about our own problems and help others to solve theirs.”

Following these steps gives us guaranteed happiness.

“‘But,’ Eva said, ‘you can’t just flip a switch and go from sad to happy.’

‘No, perhaps not,’ Aunt Rose smiled gently, ‘but God didn’t design us to be sad. He created us to have joy!’”
